Service Description

Lyrical/Modern 2 builds on the skills learned in Level 1. Modern dance is an exciting and expressive form of visual storytelling, utilizing jazz and ballet techniques to create strong feelings in the dancer and viewer alike. Lyrical dance draws heavily on ballet form and technique, but emphasizes flow, lengthening, and grace to translate the lyrics of the music. Combining Modern and Lyrical creates a graceful and emotional style of dance that draws from strong technique, flexibility, and the dancer’s strength to create beautiful stories and exciting shapes that help the viewer experience the feelings involved in the music. Expect your student to learn strong ballet technique, proper turning posture, and weekly stretching and strengthening exercises, as well as tools to tell amazing stories using dance and theater. Previous Lyrical/Modern instruction is required, and student readiness is subject to instructor approval during the first weeks of class. Students who would like to begin Lyrical/Modern, or those who are deemed not ready for Level 2 should inquire about private lessons to learn the basics of Lyrical/Modern technique and skills. NOTE: A one-time $99 fee is due now at your initial registration. You will then receive a separate AutoPay link for $84/month to be set-up in August or during your first month of dance. If your initial registration and first month is the same month, both fees will be due within that first month. Girl Attire: Leotard and tights or leggings, or other form fitting active wear that covers the knee. Long hair must be up in a bun. Short hair pulled up and out of the face. No jewelry. Tan Lyrical style shoes (ballet half-sole, half-sole thong, lyrical sandals, or lyrical half-sandals). Boy Attire: T-shirts and athletic clothing. Boys may dance barefoot.
