Curious about the unique art and craft of special effects makeup? Join this class and begin the journey into the exciting creative process of imaginary visual illusion through the use of 2 and 3 dimensional makeup and prosthetic appliance materials. Students will gain an entry level hands-on experience into fascinating world of makeup special effects, and discover how professional artists transform actors into an alien or fantasy character or superhero, and life-like looking injury and trauma simulations as seen in the movies and on TV. Taught by a multiple Emmy Award winning professional makeup special effects artist, students will learn how to plan and work with a selection of professional grade products and a few simple household items to create some fabulously cool looking makeup special effects. This one-day 5 hour class will encourage their imagination, creativity, and finesse in dexterity while fully engaged into the art and science of dimensional makeup and character transformation. They will learn the important technology and techniques that connect critical thinking and planning skills with eye/hand coordination through proper execution. Most importantly, it’s exciting and FUN!  Cosmetics will be the “paint” and the human form will be the canvas and model as they let their imagination and creativity take flight! Students will acquire important basics to develop their potential talent for stage and theatre makeup, parties and events, cosplay or simply try it for personal fun and entertainment. Best of all is their sense of achievement and success at the end of the class, as they get to see the results and take photos of their finished mini-projects! No previous art experience is required to attend this workshop. The class can get physically “messy” using the materials as they have fun, so please send your child in old clothing or an old button down shirt over clothing for protection. This workshop is limited to 6 students, as the small class size ensures each one achieves a successful skill imprint, and are qualified to move on to SFX Level 2. Each student will take home what they made in class, along with an impressive array of professional products in a student kit that provides for home practice.
