Service Description

Come discover the unique art and craft of special effects makeup for fun and enjoyment taught by an Emmy Award winning professional makeup special effects artist. Let your child’s imagination grow as they explore the process of visual and physical illusion through 2 and 3 dimensional makeup and simple prosthetic materials. Kids will get a glimpse into the world of makeup special effects, known as “SFX”, and how those artists can transform an actor into a fantasy/alien character, superhero or create life-like looking injury and trauma simulations as seen in the movies and on TV. Your child will learn how to work with a selection of both professional grade products and a few simple household items to create some cool makeup special effects just like they see on many shows and series. This one-day 3 hour class will encourage their imagination and critical thinking skills while they engage in science and art, and connect problem solving and fine motor skills while fostering teamwork. These are just some of the great benefits students will experience through learning about and creating makeup special effects. But most importantly, it’s FUN! Cosmetics will be the “paint” and the human form will be the canvas and model as they let their creativity take flight! The students get a hands-on experience with the materials, and gain insight into the challenges and what it takes to recreate real-to-the-eye looking characterizations and wound simulations. The techniques they will learn are adapted into a basic sequential skill set they will have and can immediately practice with at home. Perhaps your child is a budding special effects artist just waiting for this opportunity to come along so they can acquire the ability to utilize their potential talent for stage and theatre participation, parties and events, or just for personal fun and entertainment. Best of all is their sense of achievement and success at the end of the class, as they get to see and take photos of their finished min-projects, and perhaps act out an impromptu “scene” based upon their work! This workshop is limited to 6 students to ensure each one achieves and executes a successful skill imprint. Each child will take home an impressive kit of professional Graftobian supplies! No previous art experience is necessary.
