Introducing a brand new dance style for the 2022 – 2023 season: Modern Lyrical!!! Modern dance is an exciting and expressive form of visual storytelling, utilizing jazz and ballet techniques to create strong feelings in the dancer and viewer alike. Lyrical dance draws heavily on ballet form and technique, but emphasizes flow, lengthening, and grace to translate the lyrics of the music. Combining Modern and Lyrical creates a graceful and emotional style of dance that draws from strong technique, flexibility, and the dancer’s strength to create beautiful stories and exciting shapes to help the viewer experience the feelings involved in the music. Expect your student to learn strong ballet technique, proper turning posture, and weekly stretching and strengthening exercises, as well as tools to tell amazing stories using dance and theater. Attire: Leotard and tights, dance top and leggings, or other form fitting active wear. Long hair must be up in a bun, no jewelry (except studs for recent piercings). Shoes: Lyrical style shoes (ballet half-sole, half-sole thong, lyrical sandals, or lyrical half-sandals)
